During the colonization of Mars is not important just to build a new base but also to copy the conditions of the natural environment of the Earth. If we want find a new base for human life we have to be able to live there freely.

The process, which could theoretically change (terraformed) the whole planet would be going on for decades or centuries. There are several hypothesis of transformation. For example to let an asteroid or a bomb fall on the areas covered with dry ice or place in the orbit a mirror, etc. As the best option we consider to powder the poles of Mars where most of the frozen CO2 is located with dark objects. The dark color would absorb the light and increase the temperature and therefore the sublimation of CO2.

Concept of the MARSBEE counts with the maximal usage of the materials and minerals which are already located on the planet and with the smallest possible amount of transported materials from Earth. We would like to connect current knowledge from robotics and biology in order to develop the simplest way how to populate the planet.

1st Phase: The Robotic Queen Bee

The hive is from sociological point of view a family created by queen bee and its descendants – worker bees and drones. At least two generations of bees are living together and they are actively cooperating.

The bee queen is sent to space and afterwards it lands on the Mars by itself. It is a robotic machine with inbuilt 3D printer, photovoltanic panels and storage space where it carries material for the bees of the first generation.

2nd Phase – Planet Heater Drones

The first bees, that would be printed on the planet would be from dark material with inbuilt drills. The drones would drill themselves into the surface of the poles with the frozen CO2. The panels on them would attract the solar rays and gradually heat the poles up, which would cause terraformation. This means it would lead to the creation of an atmosphere that would resembles the atmosphere of the Earth. This process would also limit the strong radiation and make water available. This development would enable the further phase of the settlement.

3th Phase – Worker Bees

Worker bees on the earth collect pollen and nectar from the flowers and make honey out of it. For us the worker bees are the robotic machines which by using the 3D print technology are collecting the material located on the planet. From this material they are building residential modules – honeycombs.

4th Phase – Colonization

The first residents would be probably researchers and farmers who would be gradually adapting the modules to their needs. They would be adapting the living organisms to the new conditions and also establish their own families there. New generations of human that would be born on the new planet would be probably a new evolutionary kind, as would all the other organism which would be living there.
